Often when people think about coaches being prepared, they think about knowing the playbook and being prepared for practice and game-time decisions. As a youth soccer coach, you know the time, energy and research you put into preparation is a year round commitment which typically occurs off the pitch.

WMYSA recognizes this commitment and wants to help by saving you time and energy in locating training developmental opportunities.  Below you will find a Coaching Training Schedule which will include free local developmental training opportunities.   It will also include USSF and NSCAA courses in the area.

Great coaches understand to properly address the tactical, technical, physical and psychosocial training aspects needed for player development they need to be organized and have a plan they can stick with. Unfortunately, organizational problems can occur within a team which end up creating roadblocks to effective development and sidetracks the best laid plans of coaches.  This is not because they are not prepared for practice and games, rather it’s because they are not up to speed or prepared for how time consuming of all the administrative tasks.
To better assist coaches in avoiding these roadblocks, WMYSA has developed the coaching support section of the website to help provide information and tutorials for coaches and managers in the tasks which needed to maintain effective communications and timeliness of our processes.  Below you will find training aids which should be able to address many of the more common issues we see coaches get sidetracked on.

Coach Licensing Reimbursement Process

WMYSA does not have a licensing requirement for its coaches. Therefore, it is recommended clubs should set their own coaching education requirements. WMYSA strongly recommends the first-year head coach have a minimum of a grassroots certificate for the age group they plan to coach.   WMYSA also strongly recommends second year head coach in U9 thru U12 age division complete USC 7v7 or 9v9 Certificate. For coaches coaching U13 and older, we recommend completing Grassroots 11 v 11 Certificate.

Reimbursement Process

  • Reimbursement submittals will be accepted by WMYSA twice annually, April and October. April submissions must be for courses completed between October 1 of the previous year and April 30th. October submissions must be for courses completed between April 1st and October 31st of the current year.
  • The coach achieving the certificate must be a current coach during the time of the completion and/or submission.
  • Clubs must fill out the reimbursement request form and submit it along with copies of the Certificate of completion to their respective WMYSA Registrar. Once approved WMYSA will apply the credit to the club’s season ending invoice.
  • WMYSA does not reimburse coaches directly. Coaches should check with their respective club to determine their specific policy.
  • A club can only be reimbursed once per coach for each given level. Once reimbursed for a certification, WMYSA will not reimburse for future equivalent level courses.
